Find one positive thing.

Find at least one positive thing each day that you appreciate. Whether it's a good cup of coffee, music in the shower, or a smile, you'll see that it has an almost immediate effect. Keep things varied so that your brain registers positive feedback throughout the day. It might even be that you allow yourself to laugh at one bad joke a day.

Go outside.

Fresh air and exercise are two things that help the body adapt. No matter what the weather is like, exercise is good for the brain. Not only does it cleanse the lungs, but it can lift your mood, lower your heart rate, increase energy levels, and even improve digestion. Take a few minutes each day for a short walk, it doesn't have to be a long one, around the block, from the back of the parking lot, or from one building to the next. Find a mental haven of peace.

Meditation is one way to find peace, but it is not the only way. Meditation can be practiced any time you have some peace and quiet and the opportunity to close your eyes and breathe deeply for a few minutes.

You can also find your happy place in your mind by thinking about a favorite trip, a particular hobby or place, preparing a favorite dish, or planning your dream meal.
